Where'd God Go?

Today’s Special is: Just when I thought I was alone in the fog…
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Susan Call
Main Ingredient:
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39 NIV
Entrée:
The early morning air kissed my face as I stepped out onto our deck. My sleepy eyes struggled to focus on the world beyond my doorstep. Taken back, I was surprised by the dense fog that had seemingly consumed my neighborhood. Other than a few trees in the woods directly behind our house, the world had unknowingly disappeared while I slept.
Amazed by the incredible denseness of the fog, my eyes strained without success to find evidence that our neighbor’s house still adorned the property adjacent to ours. Yet despite the lack of evidence, I had no doubt the family next door remained. I knew that with the rising sun, it would only be a matter of time until the fog would burn off and my neighborhood would be visible once again.
Standing there in that moment, I thought how often I’ve felt that way in life. The struggle to keep up with the hectic pace of everyday life or problems and challenges that take us by surprise, can occasionally feel as though a dense fog has consumed the world around us. In those difficult times, it feels like the known and trusted disappear with our shortened vision.
God seems distant or all together absent. It’s easy to stand amidst our struggles and question where He’s gone or wonder why we can’t hear, feel, or see Him. But, just as I could rest assured that my neighbor’s house remained next door, God is still very present even when life’s fog consumes our world.
No matter what stresses or troubles come into our lives, nothing can separate us from God’s love. When we’re consumed and feel overwhelmed, we need to remember the “cure” for fog is the sun. When spiritual fog tries to consume us, we need to take steps to draw close to the Son through worship, praise songs, reading God’s word, and prayer.
We can rest assured that God is still with us because nothing can ever separate us from His love!
Take Out:
Identify several ways you can draw closer to the Son, Jesus, in times of spiritual fog.
What works for you? Is it praise songs, pod casts, extra prayer time, or time pondering scriptures?
When spiritual fog rolls into your life, invest extra time in activities that will draw you to the Son.
Dessert:
Dear Father, thank You for Your faithfulness - never allowing anything to separate us from You. Help us to remember that You are always present, even when in our own humanness, we can’t feel your presence. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
