Finding Comfort in God When There Is No Peace - iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women - October 30, 2024

“May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.” Psalm 119:76

Full vulnerability: within the past month, I have had little to no comfort. My pain, anxiety, and hopelessness have increased to intense levels. Due to a problematic healthcare system, I have lost so much hope in humanity. It seems humans who have been made in the image of God couldn't care less about their fellow humans who are suffering. This disconnect needs to end; however, sadly, there is not much I can do as an individual to change the entire healthcare system. 

Anything could be our proverbial healthcare system. Maybe it is your job, a relationship, or a chronic issue. All of these things can be roadblocks to our lives and cause us unnecessary problems. For example, the healthcare system is supposed to help us. Doctors are supposed to go out of their way to give us treatment and cure our sicknesses. Maybe you have a strained relationship with a parent. Parents are supposed to always be there to love and encourage their children. Perhaps your boss at work abuses his authority and leaves you with all of the workload. Bosses are supposed to ensure that things are running smoothly—and ethically. 

But while we cannot change the entire medical field or how people choose to behave, we can remove ourselves from situations that only end in stress. This is what we must do whenever we are facing a problem we cannot defeat: we must turn matters over to the Lord and walk away.

I will still do things to advocate for my care, such as submitting complaints and switching medical providers; however, I still have to give control over to God. God sees the shortcomings of everyone and the intentional neglect that is going on in organizations, such as the medical field. He sees the apathy and indifference that is being cast upon patients and their quality of care. Never think the Lord overlooks any of these things (Romans 12:19).

For the time being, all I can do is trust in God and find comfort in Him. Everything in life is difficult right now, yet God is still strong. While my faith has wavered at times, it is not because of God. Rather, it is due to my lack of confidence in man.

This is why I have turned to find comfort in God. I don’t know what is ahead of me, but I know God is with me. The world we live in is polluted with sin, and, sadly, many people don’t care about others. 

However, God does care, and He will surround us with His comfort. The Bible says, “May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant” (Psalm 119:76). As this passage tells us, God’s unfailing love will be our comfort. By reflecting on God’s ever-present love, we can have comfort and hope no matter what circumstances in life seem hopeless. Since we are loved by God Himself, there is no reason to fear. 

Problems will arise during this life, yet in a hundred years, these problems won’t matter to us anymore. Instead, we will be with God in heaven. Never again will we suffer or feel hopeless. This day will come sooner than we realize, and we can find comfort in this truth. God will restore us and surround us with not only comfort but peace and the blessing of perfection

Let's pray:. 

“Dear God, I am feeling anything but comfortable right now. Please bless me with Your comfort and surround me with Your love. Help me to reflect on Your love and peace whenever I’m struggling. I trust You, and I look forward to the day I’m with You in heaven. Amen.”
