Warrior Mom Wisdom Devotional

Every Little Thing

Theme: God’s Grace

Recently I realized that I would need another pink robe for an upcoming Warrior Mom skit. In chapter 2 of The Warrior Mom Handbook, there is a skit about Lucy and Ethel who realize they have been listening to a CD of lies. Together, wearing their pink robes, they throw out their CDs and take their trash cans to the curb. They ensure that their Belts of Truth are secure and in place which allows them to recognize the lies and stand firm.

It’s a fun little skit. When I teach the Warrior Mom class, I always ask for volunteers to perform the skit. I knew I would need to find a second affordable pink robe. Since I’m still in the doctorate program and funds are very tight at ministry headquarters, I was wondering how I would buy one. It was on my prayer request list to God and it was on my “to do” list for myself. I was going to go to the thrift store or look for a really good coupon. In the mean time, my very close friend who has a lake house in Alabama was planning a girls’ weekend with rest and relaxation as the headline entertainment. Reluctantly, I went.

At 39 years old, I had never had a girls’ weekend at a cabin or anywhere else for that matter. My husband and both children told me that I needed to go, so I went. I could also hear God saying, “Come away with me to a quiet place and get some rest…” (Mark 6:31) so I went. I was glad! What an amazing weekend. I talked, I laughed, I ate, we went on a long hike, and I rested in amazing measures. I basked in precious friendships. What a gift!

Guess what else? In my room, upon my pillow, was a pink robe with the letter “K” embroidered on it! There was also an oversized Hershey’s Kiss. Can you believe that? Through all this, God reminded me that He is in control of the big things. He is in control of the little things. And, when we listen to what He wants us to do and go where He wants us to go, He provides the things we need before we even have a chance to get them for ourselves. More importantly, He confirms His presence in the most intimate ways. He is such a loving Father.

Mk 6:30The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.

Mk 6:31Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Mk 6:32So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.

God’s Grace-filled presence is all around.
