His Will? Your Will?
I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to that mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
Matthew 17:20-21
Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in Heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them.”
Matthew 18:19-20
I’ve wondered about these scriptures. Have you? For example, if someone says, “I believe in Your name, I will win the lottery tonight.” Does that mean they will? People have said, “I’ve prayed and prayed for something and God isn’t answering me; He isn’t giving me what I ask for.” We know, however, that God is a wonderful Father, and if something is actually going to be detrimental to us, He may deny us from having it.
In contemplating this issue, I was thinking of a prayer I have prayed for years and years: for my will to be His will in such a way that I don’t know the difference. I’ve wondered sometimes if things I was praying for were rooted in my will or His will. Sometimes, I received them; sometimes I did not. Recently God showed me a powerful aspect of His will. Through writing The Warrior Mom Handbook, God illustrated the power of His Word. He wanted more of His Word in the book than my own words. At first I thought this was odd because I figured women could just go read their Bibles; I didn’t see the point of retyping all the scriptures. But, after I read the first batch of scriptures on Strength, something happened within me. I was changed. I realized that I was drenched in the Word of God, and the power of His Word revealed God’s strength to me. The change in me occurred through the process of reading all those scriptures at once. God is wooing us back to His Word for our own good. God wants us to drench ourselves in His Word because His Word has the power to transform us. He is the Word (John 1:1). It is alive and active, after all. Wow!
I now realize that the more I am in His Word, the more my mind naturally gravitates towards understanding His will for me. As this process continues, day in and day out, year after year, my will begins to line up with His will, and after a while, one truly doesn’t know the difference between their will and His will. The more you read His Word, the more you will understand His will for you, and the more your prayers will coordinate with His will for you. Once this happens, you begin to ask Him for things that He’s been waiting for you to ask Him for. He was just waiting for your will and your faith to come in agreement with Him and His plans for you.
So, I say, get in His Word. Get some girlfriends in His Word, and then get together and study and pray over His Word and His will for your lives. And then, together, submit your requests to God in His Name. Oh, and don’t forget to put your faith-seat-belts on first because the power of God is going to blow you away!
