Jesus Prays for Himself on the Mount of Olives - Warrior Mom Wisdom - Week of October 3

Warrior Mom Wisdom Devotional

JESUS PRAYS FOR HIMSELF ON THE MOUNT OF OLIVES

Lk 22:39Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.

Lk 22:40On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”

Lk 22:41He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,

Lk 22:42“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Lk 22:43An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.

Lk 22:44And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Lk 22:45When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.

Lk 22:46“Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

Jesus prayed so intensely that his sweat was like drops of blood. While none of us have faced what Jesus did, it is important to know that since God’s Son, The Word in flesh form, prayed for Himself, so too should we. Many people have said the following to me: “I don’t pray for myself because it seems selfish.” To that I say that praying for oneself is equivalent to putting the oxygen mask on the airplane on your first and then helping someone else put on their oxygen-mask.

If we do not pray for ourselves, we will eventually pass out or fall out due to exhaustion. If that happens, the next time God says, “Whom shall I send?” We’ll be passed out and miss it all. Praying for ourselves is part of spiritual self-care. If we do not care enough for ourselves to pray for ourselves, how can God use us to care for or help someone else? Pray to be filled with His love, flowing through you, filling you up as His love within you pours forth to others.

Whatever He does through you, He ultimately does for you. Pray to be blessed that you would be a blessing to others. Warriors pray for themselves because they know they need it. I encourage you to pray before your feet even hit the ground in the morning, “Father, protect me from my own ignorance and arrogance. And Father, protect me please from the ignorance and arrogance of others. May Your will be my will in such a way that I don’t know the difference. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.”
