You Were Running a Good Race, Who Cut in on You? - Warrior Mom Wisdom - Week of November 25

Warrior Mom Wisdom Devotional

You were running a good race, who cut in on you?

The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.

Gal 5:7-10

I love this visual. I can see a person running along, running a good race, focused, steadfast, in their running groove, and then boom! Out of nowhere, comes another runner, a rude, ruthless runner that cuts in on them, and messes them up, maybe even makes them fall, rolling over the pavement, into the dirt and down an incline. The once good runner then finds themselves rubbing their eyes from the mud and the grass lying on their back. What happened?

It’s a good visual for the race of life isn’t it? It makes me ask myself, “Who is around me, who may come up on me, that I must pray protection over myself?”

I also notice that the fruit of the Spirit soon follows this passage:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-25

Interesting. I just noticed that this verse tells us to keep “in step with the Spirit…” I see how if we get out of step with the Spirit, we are more prone to trip. I see now how someone else may cut in on us, but we may also cause ourselves to get out of step with the Spirit, thereby cutting in on ourselves. We are not only to watch and pray for those others who may cut in on us, but we must also remain vigilant, seeking Him in order that we may not lead ourselves to our own demise, finding ourselves rubbing our eyes in the mud and grass, on our back, wondering, “What happened?”
