Am I Good Enough
By Susan Aken
“…I am fearfully and wonderfully made…” Psalm 139:14
I struggle with feeling inadequate. I was the young girl hiding in the corner hoping no one would notice me. As an adult, I’ve often been afraid others will discover I’m not smart enough for my job. We all wrestle at times with the idea of being “good enough” for our parents, teachers, spouse, and ultimately for God.
I’m always aware of my failings and weaknesses. I know I’m not as smart, capable, or gifted as many. There comes a point when we know we’re never going to be the superstar or the best in our field. Most of us are average. Our society is obsessed with being the greatest at whatever we do. But only a few can achieve that state. And those who do become “the greatest” discover they still don’t measure up.
How does God view us?
God’s works are wonderful! I remember a poster that read, “God don’t make no junk.” owHow He’s our creator. Every human is an amazing creation—from our unique DNA to every mind-boggling cell. Each of us is one of a kind.
Because of our offenses, we can never be morally good on our own. But, the great news is: God loves us anyway! He loved us enough to send Jesus to be “good” for us. He took us, helpless in our wrongdoing, and gave us His righteousness. The best news we could get! When the thought, “I’m not good enough” comes, remember: Jesus, who made me and you the way He wanted us to be, loved us enough to die for us and replace our sin with His righteousness. That makes us priceless!
Do you feel inadequate? Remember in Christ you are redeemed.
