Our Testimonies Brings Life to Others
By Andrea Chatelain
“Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me everything I ever did.’” John 4:39
Jesus first identified Himself as the Messiah to a woman with a shady past. He didn’t choose a noble, wealthy male. Instead He revealed His glory to a lowly, foreign, non-Jewish woman. In essence, an outsider. I think the reason why is found in the verse above.
At a time when the Pharisees, a group of Jewish religious leaders, wanted to contain the truth of Jesus’ identity—that He was the One Scripture had predicted—this woman spread the word. She needed a Savior. Unlike the Pharisees, she wasn’t seeking her own glory, but was excited that God’s glory stood right in front of her.
The Samaritan woman had nothing to lose; she wasn’t worried about her image. So she told her whole town about her encounter with Jesus. How He knew things about her and claimed to be the Messiah. Her testimony was so powerful that many believed in Jesus that day.
This woman, who most likely had a rough reputation, was the first female evangelist we know of. She sets the pace for the rest of us as we go out and tell others how we met Jesus. Her story shows that no matter how messy our past or present, Jesus can step into our lives, reveal His truth and power, and use us for His glory as we bravely tell others about Him.
I wonder how hearing your story could spark or strengthen someone’s faith. Reach out today and courageously tell those around you of how you’ve seen evidence of the Messiah in your life.
