TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in My name the Father will give you” - John 15:16

SOMETHING TO PONDER

Some believers think that after God places us on earth, He then leaves it up to us as to what career or ministry we pursue; it’s totally our choice how we choose to live our lives. But before the world was created, God had plans for us.

It’s hard for many of us to comprehend, understand, and accept, but 2 Timothy 1:9 explains, “He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.”

God is a planner, and each life comes with His plan attached to it, but whether we choose His way or what we think is our way is really the enemy of our soul’s way, and that is where we go from there. None of us are put on earth without a God-given plan, divinely and uniquely equipped beforehand by Him.

Although it doesn’t seem like it when looking at the condition of the world today and how so many people seem to be barely surviving, it’s still true.

God has already planned out our lives, and it’s kind of like the classic television series “Mission Impossible,” where agents are given an assignment and then the freedom to choose to accept and carry it out or not.

As Ephesians 2:10 explains, we’re handmade for our purpose on earth, and everything we need to accomplish is prepared ahead of time by God. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

We are called, and when we submit to God’s will over our own will for our lives, we are on course to fulfill His good purpose, just like Philippians 2:13 describes. “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.”

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Dear Father,
Thank you for having plans and a purpose for our lives. Lead us to fulfill Your calling and help us to be open to your direction and to be willing to let go of choosing our way over Your way. Reveal to us, O Lord, the way You want us to walk in life and free us from the things of the world that may be holding us back from truly trusting and following You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. Are you skeptical or unsure God really has a plan and purpose for each life? If so, start asking God to reveal His plan and purpose for you.

2. Are there times in your life when you believed God was trying to lead you a certain way, but it wasn’t the direction you wanted to go? If so, like a GPS recalculates our car routes when we miss a turn or go the wrong direction, ask God to recalculate and get us back on track for His will and purpose to be accomplished in our lives.

3. How willing are you to forgo your own will to follow His will for your life? Take some time to consider why His way is better.
