God’s Gift of Abundance
Your Nightly Prayer for Jan. 27, 2025
by Amanda Idleman
TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE
"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever." - Ephesians 3:20-21
SOMETHING TO PONDER
Abundance is an extremely plentiful or over-sufficient quantity or supply. We read that God promises us access to an abundant life, abundant grace, abundant love, and plentiful power. He is able to do far more than what we can imagine! Yet we live most of our lives in such a mode of self-sufficiency that we don’t reach for his promised power. We can’t live by his power when we are hellbent on figuring out how to do things by our own strength.
When we, with humility, acknowledge our great need and come to our knees, we begin to see him show up with extravagance and love. As we ask for his power, requesting him to do what only he can, we see his faithfulness abound. He gives wisdom, healing, peace, knowledge, strength, forgiveness, patience, and so much grace. Our needs are met by grace. This is the abundant life.
God’s good gifts come from heaven! They are the intangibles that enable us to enjoy and thrive in this very tangible world. His abundance is a life well lived, and he invested in Kingdom things for his glory. It’s a steady faith that waits for the Spirit to speak and then moves forward without hesitation when the path forward becomes clear. It’s seeking his kingdom first and then trusting that God will bring what you need right when you need it.
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
God,
I thank you for being a God that offers us abundance. You could have just offered us salvation, but you give us so much more. We have access to the fruits of the spirit. You give us the power to love and forgive. We are known and loved. You provide for our every need. Offer us wisdom when we ask for it. Your peace surpasses understanding. Your guidance flows through a river, propelling us forward. We can trust you to bring us just what we need, no matter what needs we have. You are good and powerful. Help me to grasp your gift of abundance rather than living a life of pride.
Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON
1. How has pride stopped you from relying on God to give you what you need to thrive?
2. In what ways has God’s abundance brought you to your knees in your life?
3. What would you do differently if you really believed in God’s abundant love? How could you trust him more through your circumstances?
