Though President Trump’s inauguration is a little less than a week away, there are events over this weekend that lead up to his inauguration on Monday. It all begins on Saturday with fireworks and the Vice President’s dinner. Then, on Sunday, there’s a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a Make America Great Again Victory rally, and a candlelight dinner. Finally, the big day begins at 6:00 in the morning with a church service, according to The Tennessean.
Monday will have quite the flurry of activities filling up the day, including a performance of “America the Beautiful” by country music star Carrie Underwood. The Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club will also be singing at the event.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood told USA Today in a statement. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
To prepare our hearts for Inauguration Day, here are 5 things Christians can pray for.

1. Pray for the Safety of Everyone at the Event
All of the inaugural activities will take place on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol, including the noon swearing-in ceremonies for Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump. There will also be a parade, which will make its way across the D.C. area, and there are a plethora of viewing areas, according to KMSP. Prayer for the safety of all in attendance is important since much of the event is out in the open.

2. Pray for Beautiful Weather
This might seem like a small thing, but with this event taking place in the winter, there’s certainly a risk of snow and / or freezing rain. Praying for a sunny day and a comfortable temperature is important since much of the event is outdoors, there will be streets closed and detours because of the parade, lots of people from out of town, entertainment and speeches to name just a few things that would be impacted by the weather.

3. Pray for President Trump
Trump is stepping into office at one of the most volatile times in world history. The Russia-Ukraine war is dragging America toward the edge of World War III (some say it’s already going on), the Middle East is a hotbed of instability, inflation is causing people to struggle to pay for even just the basics of life, and that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg of turmoil. Trump and all of this country’s leaders need prayer for wisdom on how to respond to the many crises facing our nation. 1 Timothy chapter 2 verse 2 says that we need to pray for those in authority so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

4. Pray for Peace in Our Nation
Our nation is sharply divided right now. Some are thrilled at the outcome of the most recent election; some are devastated and even angry. Prayers that God would heal our land are needed now more than ever, as well as prayers that God would put His peace that passes understanding in the hearts of all people.

5. Our Nation Needs Our Prayers for Protection
There are the seen things that are obvious with regard to calling on God for His supernatural protection, and then there are also the lesser known and unseen. The obvious threats from the Russia-Ukraine war and the instability in the Middle East are areas where we need God’s protection.
There isn’t much being said right now about the drones and how much of a security risk that may be. One country whose leaders have decided that it’s time to take some action is Germany. They’re extending permission to their armed forces to shoot down drones that are unidentified, especially if it’s suspected they’re spying on military bases, industrial facilities, or other essential infrastructure, according to Bloomberg.
As for the unseen, there’s always activity in which the enemy is engaged for the purposes of causing chaos, death, and destruction. Ephesians chapter 6 verse 11 instructs Christians to “put on the full armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Verse 12 gives a bit of detail regarding the battle that’s always going on. It involves principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this age, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly place. But the Lord is always with us and sticks closer than a brother.
