Winter is a long season for many of us. Cold temperatures cause us to stay indoors and reach for a warm blanket. During these colder months, it is the perfect time to try a new warm soup recipe. Even if you are someone who is not a huge fan of soup, you might find a recipe that you love. It could be you just haven’t tried the right soup yet!
If you are a lover of soups, you have come to the right place. While many of us only associate soup with chicken noodle soup when we are sick, there are actually limitless soup recipes to try. In addition, it is also important to remember that you don’t have to be sick to enjoy soup. You can enjoy soup any time of year; however, it is much more popular to have soup in the cold winter months.
Whether you want to try a new recipe this year or go back to an old favorite, soup is a staple for the winter months. Canned soup is delicious, but you might want to try to make soup from scratch this year. By making your own soup, it will enrich the nutritional value and decrease unhealthy aspects, such as the high salt content found in traditional canned soup. Nonetheless, if you want to try a new recipe for the cold days of winter, here are a few ideas:

One warm recipe for the cold days of winter is to make your own homemade bean and bacon soup. Canned bean and bacon soup is always a quick and easy recipe; however, have you ever tried to make your own? If you are short on time, it is completely okay to just grab a can from the cabinet and make your soup. However, if you want to try something different, you could put your own unique touches on the classic bean and bacon soup.
A great recipe for bean and bacon soup can be found here. This recipe will take a bit of time; therefore, it is important to properly prepare. Many of us can get discouraged from long cooking times or preparations; however, all the time you invest in this recipe will pay off. Try to be patient as you cook this recipe and thoroughly enjoy the delicious result when your soup is ready.

A second warm soup recipe to try for the colder months is homemade vegetable soup. Vegetable soup has always been one of my favorite soups of all time. My mother used to make vegetable soup throughout the year and it became a staple in our house. While there are many differing opinions when it comes to vegetable soup, as many people strongly dislike it, try to give it a second chance. If you tried vegetable soup as a child and didn’t like it, try it again now that you are an adult. It could be that your food preferences and interests have changed over the course of time, and you might like it now.
There are many canned vegetable soups out there, but making your own vegetable soup is a million times better. The vegetables will be fresher and the best part is you can choose which vegetables you want to have in your soup. If you do not like celery or tomatoes, you don’t have to include them. In the same way, if you want extra sweet peas or extra carrots, you can add in extra of your favorite vegetables. A wonderful recipe to try can be found here.
You can serve saltine crackers with this soup or you could have warm, toasted bread. Vegetable soup often gets a bad rep for not being as filling as other soups, but if you add in potatoes, beans, and offer crackers or bread on the side, it can be a filling meal. When you are staying at home this winter, try to pull out a few supplies and cook a delicious homemade vegetable soup. If your family or friends want to join in, they are sure to also help you cook and enjoy this wonderful recipe.

A third warm soup recipe for the cold days of winter is cheesy potato soup. My sister loves two things: cheese and potatoes. Many of us can relate because what is there not to love about potatoes and cheese? Due to her love for potatoes and cheese, we started looking for a recipe that included both of these things. Through our research, we found a delicious soup recipe that both of us enjoyed. If you also want to try the recipe, here it is!
This cheesy potato soup doesn’t take as long as other recipes do; however, make sure you allocate about forty minutes. This recipe includes sprinkled bacon on the top, but if you are vegetarians as we are, you can leave this ingredient out or you could substitute veggie bacon or croutons. My sister and I used the latter and it added a nice crunch to the soup. Cheesy potato soup is a great recipe that your entire family will love and you will be sure to hear your children asking for seconds.

A fourth warm soup recipe for the cold days of winter is rustic Italian tortellini soup. When I first tried this recipe with a friend, I was considering calling it my all-time favorite soup. It only takes 20 minutes to prepare and 20 minutes to cook, which is very nice if you don’t have hours to invest in a recipe. Plus, it is one of the most delicious and filling soups that you will ever have. It is definitely worth trying for yourself.
The recipe I am referring to can be found here. Yet again, if you are a vegetarian, this recipe calls for sausage, but you can substitute veggie sausage or you can pass on the meat. My friend and I used veggie sausage and it was a great substitute if you don’t eat meat or are trying to eat a more plant-based diet. If you want to keep in the regular sausage, that is great too. Maybe it is your first time trying sausage in a soup, but you will not be disappointed. Rustic Italian tortellini soup is a favorite soup of mine during winter, and I’m confident you will also add this to your top five favorite soups.

A fifth warm soup recipe to have this winter is taco twist soup. Taco twist soup is a great addition or main course to your typical taco Tuesday meal. Many of us have taco Tuesday on a few Tuesdays each month, but not many of us have tried serving a soup on taco Tuesday. This is a nice twist on your normal weekday meal plan.
The best recipe I have found for taco twist soup is right here. The total time for this recipe is 30 minutes, so it's great for a busy school night. You can serve various toppings with this recipe, such as shredded cheese, sour cream, and tortilla strips. The toppings are a nice add-on for extra flavor and crunch. If you have never tried taco soup, give it a try sometime this winter. It will surely be a dish you enjoy throughout the entire winter.
