Our Adopted Child Looks Different from Us: What's the First Tip We Need to Know?
"It's really important when families go into the adoption process and they are probably gonna have someone come into their home that looks different than them, that that is a very high priority for them to actually read books about different races, for them to engage in different cultures, for them to have friends that look like their child's gonna look." -Bri Stensrud

I think it's really important when families go into the adoption process and they are probably gonna have someone come into their home that looks different than them, that that is a very high priority for them to actually read books about different races, for them to engage in different cultures, for them to have friends that look like their child's gonna look.

I think the easy route is to bring a child in that's a different race and then continue living your life like you'd normally done. But I think to be the best parent that we can to our kids who look different from us is that we provide them with opportunities to see people that also look like them, whether that be the movies you watch, the books you read, the churches you attend, the parents that you meet at PTA, whatever it is. Really try to help your kid see people that look like them.
