Zach Williams and Dolly Parton's Stirring Duet 'Lookin' for You'

Updated Apr 19, 2024

Two immensely talented musicians, Zach Williams and Dolly Parton, joined forces for a stirring duet performance of “Lookin’ for You.”

People are constantly looking for connection and meaning in their lives. They will go to great lengths to find something that makes them feel whole, connected, and not so alone.

Everyone wants to know they are not alone and going through this life by themselves. Some people will fill this need for connection and love with work, romantic relationships, and when nothing else seems to work, even with drugs and alcohol.

Zach and Dolly, in their song “Lookin’ for You,” sing about this desire everyone has to feel needed and loved, that they matter simply because they are human beings. The two country musicians sing how they tried to fill this desire, this hole with things and achievements, but came up short and felt empty every time.

However, it wasn’t until they had reached their lowest point and were down on their knees crying out to God that they realized He was what they were looking for the whole time.

“And I cried out to Heaven
I could finally see
Jesus, Jesus, I know it’s true
All of my life, I was lookin’ for You”

It’s a beautifully written and performed tune that perfectly captures the brokenness of people and where individuals will search to find something to make them whole. But as people often do, they will look for answers in all the wrong places. Too many people have to experience too much hurt before considering turning to the one true, trustworthy source of comfort, healing, and peace.

The world offers many temporary fixes to our problems and issues, but they all wear off and eventually cease to be. However, as Jesus told the lady at the well, “But whoever takes the water I give him will never be in need of drink again; for the water I give him will become in him a fountain of eternal life.”
